The Vrbas is the main city stream, dividing the city in two parts. It is more than a river to Banja Luka`s citizens. In the urban area Vrbas` tributaries are the rivers of Vrbanja, Suturlija, Crkvena, Rijeka, Švrakava, Rekavica and others. Making its way from south to north, the Vrbas meanders through the canyon to be transformed into a valley stream soon after. The river is rich in trout, grayling and huchen, and apart from the beautiful landscape it offers excellent conditions for practising sport and recreation. The river`s highlight is a special vessel called dayak, named after a stick used for pushing the vessel.
